Getting Here
From the CBD, you can take the cable car from Lambton Quay to the top of the Botanical Gardens. The cable car departs every 10 minutes and opening times are here. The building is a 5 minute walk nestled between the old Met building and the Dominion Observatory.
Travelling on buses, you can catch the no 2 Karori bus at Lambton Quay and get off at the Centennial and Founders' entrances on Glenmore Street. The building is then a 20 minute uphill walk through the play area towards the old Met building. Alternatively, buses 18 and 21 from Courtney Place and bus 22 from Wellington Station stop on Upland Road. The building is than a 10-15 minute walk.
If you're walking, a popular route is from The Terrace through Bolton Street Cemetery, through the Lady Norwood Rose Garden and up the left side towards Salamanca Road. This walk takes about 30 minutes.
And if you're looking for a park, drive up off Salamanca Road and you can park for free outside the main building (see photo below). Please register your details on the board by the red doors to stop your car from being towed. If those two spaces are taken, there is paid parking off Salamanca Road near the old Met building and some coupon parking on Salamanca Road. Alternatively, there's coupon parking on Upland Road, paid Wilson parking at the Cable Top Cafe at the end of Upland Road, and a public car park next to the Rose Garden. Give yourself about 10 minutes walking time to reach the building.
